The challenge: creating an accessible home environment

This was a substantial home adaptation project requiring much more than the installation of individual accessibility products.

The aim was to create a home that provided full level access throughout, while making everyday bathing and living safer and more accessible for the customer.

Achieving this meant coordinating a wide range of works across the property. Alongside the specialist adaptations, the project required extensive renovation work, including a full electrical rewire, replastering of all surfaces including ceilings, complete redecoration and new hard flooring throughout.

The scale and variety of the work meant that careful planning and project management were essential to ensure every element of the adaptation worked together as part of one cohesive home.

Our solution: a complete home adaptation

Taylor-Made Mobility worked closely with the customer through a detailed design process to understand their requirements and develop an adaptation that worked across the home.

The project was then fully managed by Taylor-Made Mobility, with the customer giving the team full autonomy to coordinate and deliver the work.

Key elements of the project included:

Installation of a level access wet room, creating a safer and more accessible bathing environment
An accessible kitchen, designed to support easier everyday living
A Grohe smart toilet with bidet
A fixed shower screen with deflector
A full electrical rewire
Replastering of all surfaces, including ceilings
Full redecoration throughout the property
Installation of new hard flooring throughout
A new heating system

Rather than treating the wet room, kitchen and other adaptations as standalone installations, the project brought all of these elements together as part of a complete home transformation.

The extensive scope of the work also demonstrates the breadth of Taylor-Made Mobility’s skills and experience. From the detailed design process through to coordinating the different elements of the renovation, the project was delivered with a focus on creating a finished home that was practical, accessible and ready to use.

The results: a safer, more accessible home

The completed project has created a home with full-level access throughout, providing a more accessible environment for everyday living.

The new wet room provides a safer bathing environment, while the accessible kitchen and wider adaptations support greater ease and independence around the home. The completed works also mean the customer can move into their finished home without needing to undertake additional renovation work.

The result is a fully managed transformation that combines accessibility with the wider improvements needed to make the property a complete, comfortable home.

For Taylor-Made Mobility, the project also shows the importance of viewing accessibility as part of the home as a whole. By taking responsibility for the project from the design stage through to completion, we were able to coordinate the different works and deliver a cohesive result rather than a collection of separate adaptations. Most importantly, the customer was delighted with the finished project and the support they received throughout the process.

They listened, they cared, they treated my house like it was their house that they were working on. they went above and beyond. When they encountered problems in the house that hadn't been anticipated, they simply pivoted and made course corrections and ensured that the problem was solved and that the issue was fixed before moving on with the project. They had to do a lot more work than we had originally anticipated but they still came in on time with the project because of the dedication of the whole team who worked tirelessly. And when I found a couple of small snagging issues after being in the house for a couple of weeks they came back and fixed them immediately with no complaints. The really are a wonderful company who are dedicated to their customers and their needs. My accessible home means so much more to me because the team who made it accessible poured themselves into it and really gave so much to ensure that my home would be accessible not only now but into the future as well. Incredible team, amazing work, fantastic eye to detail. From start to finish, the team have been professional and reliable. Paul set out a perfect design plan for me which has transformed the space into a bright, modern, and beautifully finished bathroom, thoughtfully designed with comfort and independence in mind. Paul took account of my husband's needs and our preferences when designing our wet room. The work was carried out to a very high standard by fitters who were a pleasure to have in the house. They were always on time and left everything clean and tidy at the end of the day. The designer/manager Paul was very attentive, considered making our en-suite useable! It was clear the fitter James too had a sense of pride in what they do. No gaps, sloppy sealants or drains that don’t work. There is NO water outside the show door on the mat. The door has handles on inside and out in right places that are solid. The shower head is wonderful. The work was done in the days allotted with minimum of fuss care and tidying up so as not impact the rest of the house. They were also *affordable* Paul designed with concern that we did not have massive budget and looked to what would get the bathroom working again and swapped in their own sink free of charge! All in all I can without hesitation recommend them as they know the impact of what they can do can make and do not pump up price (rather do the opposite). The work was done very efficiently - checked every day by the manager. Both showed pride in their work and doing a goood job. As we get older more is going to be needed and I am so glad to have found them! Highly recommend.

We were working within a very tight time schedule which could have proved extremely challenging. Paul however coordinated a rebuild, purchasing of all bathroom supplies, changes to electrics & plumbing, plastering and redecorating in the space of 6 weeks from our first meeting to having a completed fantastic accessible bathroom for a wheelchair user. At the design stage Paul visited twice to ensure I’d be happy with the plans we’d worked out together. Set aside a week for the job, but was done very efficiently in three days by Paul’s craftsman. At no stage did we feel rushed, pressured, or upsold and Paul went to great pains to include me in the process via online meetings and emails, as I was in another time zone and unable to be present in person. Paul let us know when we should expect the team to arrive, what the plan was each day, and how long it would take. They fulfilled these expectations. He communicated throughout and sent photos to me of the work when it was done. During the installation, my mum ended up needing some medical attention and was briefly away from home but the team found a way to work around the situation and complete the job as planned. They returned as soon as it was convenient for Mum to put up some finishing touches at the correct height for her. This was just one example of the thoughtfulness and courtesy with which they treated my Mum. It may not be the cheapest option but I would say that the good service, quality materials, and well thought out accessibility features are worth it. Thank you,  Paul, and team!
